Danfords Becomes Setting for Breast Cancer Survivor's Fairy Tale Story
April 29, 2009
In June 2008, Lori Sinagra was diagnosed with breast cancer followed by a double masectomy and several weeks of chemotherapy. This past February she had a final reconstructive surgery as well as an ovary removed. The recovery period at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York City, was a tough time as Lori was in excruciating pain. Meanwhile her fiancé, Joey Scarangello, was always by her side. As Lori laid in bed in Room 533, there was a picture of a boardwalk at a marina that hung on the wall directly in front of her. Not knowing where this picture was taken, Joey said to Lori, “"When you'’re better, I'’m gonna take you there."” He would repeat this through every ache of pain.
Then one day, Joey looked closely at the old photograph, which was taken about 20 years ago, and noticed a 516 area code on one of the boats. He couldn'’t believe this place could be in New York. Joey immediately went on the Internet and came across Danfords’' website. Looking through the photo gallery, he found a picture with the same view in the photograph that was in Room 533.
Now Lori is doing excellent and received a clean bill of health. Joey surprised her with a visit to Danfords on April 25 where they had their picture taken on that same boardwalk that was an integral part in her recovery. Lori, who has become a mentor for other breast cancer patients, was very surprised and even shed a few tears. She became a real-life Cinderella.
